In knitwear, entrances to the drawstring are most conveniently handled with punched blocks. This prevents tissue sections from stretching and crumbling, and also gives things a finished look.

But difficulties can arise at the next stage, when you need to insert a cord for ties to the drawstring. A pin here will definitely not help, even a very small one, and with the help of a regular needle, this venture is likely to suffer a fiasco.

There is a very simple way how to put the cord into the drawstring through the blocks without any problems. And an example is the male anorak from Burda 12/2018:

You will need:

→ Cotton cord;

→ Punching blocks and a special device for their installation;

→ Stationery tape;

→ Scissors

Step 1

Install blocks along the front section of the hood, while on the reverse side use small patches of knitwear to seal. Cut the protruding edges of the knit close to the blocks.

Step 2

Finish processing the hood and stitch it in accordance with the instructions.

Step 3

Cut the cotton cord to the required length with a margin of 1.5–2 cm.

Step 4

Wrap one end of the cord tightly with tape at a distance of about 1.5–2 cm.

Step 5

Pass the cord into the drawstring through one block and pull out through the second.

Step 6

Cut off the end of the cord with tape.

Tie a knot at the ends of the cord.
