A mini-ironing board is a convenient and useful device at home that will save you from having to take out a large folding board every time.

If you do needlework, such as a patchwork and you often need to iron small parts, a compact ironing board will come to the rescue. It does not take up much space and is easy to climb in the literal and figurative sense of the word!

Of course, you can always buy a ready-made mini-board, but it is very simple to do it yourself, and its cost will be penny.

You will need:

  • Piece of plywood
  • Four flat wooden handles for furniture (you can do without them)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Batting
  • the cloth
  • Scissors
  • Furniture stapler
  • Four screws

How to sew a do-it-yourself case for an ironing board: 2 workshops

Step 1

Use the ruler to map out locations for future board legs. Screw in the screws.

Step 2

Fasten the furniture handles to the screws.

Step 3

Cut a square from a batting (or a rectangle depending on your choice of wooden base) according to the size of your board + 2.5 cm on each side, as well as a square or rectangle from the main fabric to the size of the board + 5 cm on each side.

Lay the fabric upside down, then batting on top, and then the board legs up.Starting from one of the corners, fold up the fabric twice, straighten and fasten with a bracket using a stapler.

Step 4

Continue by securing along the entire side and gently twisting the fabric at the corners. Done!

If you wish, you can make a board without legs, and also do without a furniture stapler if you do not have it and you do not want to buy it. In this case, you can simply sew a neat cover of several layers (batting or fleece + main fabric) to the size of the board, put it on and sew it carefully. The main thing is that the fabric lay flat on the surface, without creases and irregularities.
