Fabrics with a coupon pattern are quite popular this season. But working with them is not easy. Not everyone knows how to better position the pattern and what to sew from such material.

We turned to our expert, stylist, head of the Wardrobe rehab image studio Oksana Bolbot and asked her to tell how to work with coupon fabrics correctly.

What is a coupon?

If we talk about fabric in general, then a coupon is not a type of fabric, but the nature of the pattern applied to the canvas. Actually, when it comes to coupon fabric, we mean that the picture is represented by a complete visual unit, which is not recommended to be broken. The drawing, respectively, can be completely different - linear and more picturesque, strict and romantic, large and small. As a rule, many manufacturers have their own business card - a coupon fabric with a certain character of the pattern. When choosing such a fabric, it makes sense to focus on your type of figure and appearance.

Who suits fabric products with a coupon?

Coupon fabric can suit almost everyone! The only question is not what to wear, but how! You need to focus on where exactly the key accent pattern will be located and correlate it with the type of your figure.

How to choose a picture depending on the type of figure?

The principle of choosing a picture is as follows: we look at ourselves in the mirror and focus on how close our figure is to the balanced type and resembles an hourglass.

Hourglass

If your figure is an hourglass, remember: the volume of the picture should be balanced by the top and bottom prints of the same size, while the waist is sure to be emphasized.

Rectangle

If you are the owner of a rectangular figure, then the recommendations will be similar, but the waist - semi-adjacent.

Pear

If your figure is a pear - place the largest details of the picture in the upper part of the body and also do not forget about the waist.

Inverted triangle

If you have a sports figure with a slight emphasis on shoulders and narrow hips, on the contrary, focus on ensuring that all large and iconic figures are located below the waist.

An Apple

Owners of an apple figure should not choose a fabric with a coupon: if you add a pattern up or down, the figure will look fuller. If you place it in the center - the stomach will visually increase.

What is better to sew from a coupon fabric?

The choice of model, again, depends on the type of figure and the structure of your appearance. Carefully examine your appearance - which lines prevail in it? If rigid, linear, focus on the fact that the coupon design is strict, abstraction or geometric prints are suitable. Moreover, in this case, a blouse can be sewn from the coupon fabric and combined with bright trousers or a pencil skirt. If your appearance has a lot of rounded lines - curly hair, snub nose, puffy lips, choose soft patterns with barely noticeable outlines. In this case, it makes sense to sew a dress from a coupon fabric and wear it with accessories matching the tone.

How to adjust a figure using a fabric with a coupon pattern?

There are several principles in stylistics that correct the figure well: the principle of nuance and scale.

Scale principle

The main rule: the size of the picture should first of all correspond to your height and weight.

If you are thin and tiny by nature, try to avoid large and very bright patterns - this will only interfere and visually make you even smaller. If you have magnificent forms, it makes sense to choose large drawings - it will be great to slim. Average height and average weight "loves" medium-sized drawings.

Principle of nuance

The second principle - a nuance, says that it makes sense to emphasize in the body those areas that are our virtues, to consciously focus on them due to bright accents, interesting decorative elements. A drawing in this case can also help: remember that a drawing is always a three-dimensional image that visually enlarges. Therefore, you can safely place it in those parts of the body that require balancing. And, of course, don't be afraid to experiment! Drawing in this business is just a great helper!
