Designer Sultanna Frantsuzova, a longtime fan of Burda magazine, recalls with pleasure models from his first issues.

Sultanna Frantsuzova: "The bomber is at the peak of fashion"

When did you first get to know Burda magazine?

The first time I sewed on it when I was 12 years old. I received the magazine as a gift, and that was magic for me. I can call myself a passionate fan of Burda, I was looking forward to every issue. In the shops at that time there was nothing at all, except kilometers of chintz and bathrobes from it. At graduation, I sewed a dress from the cover of Burda, and the magazine determined my future profession.

How do you explain the passion of women for sewing?

Now my life is closely connected with Asia, and there is a huge selection of clothes. But women everywhere want to look original. Moreover, sewing is a process similar to meditation, yoga. In Russia, another factor mixes in: when you cannot find what you need. Especially if the figure is non-standard or the size is above the 50th. It is difficult for the manufacturer to comply with a variety of proportions. In this case, either a competent dressmaker or the ability to sew can be a real way out.
